Feature Sponsor trip testimonials:

2015 raffle winner Chris Miller of Team CRD – a big thanks to feature sponsor Nootka Marine Adventures

I can certainly say that when I won the all-inclusive guided fishing trip to Moutcha Bay Resort at the 2015 Consultants Derby I was pumped! What a prize! We could hardly wait to go. My friend Jim and I were treated to first class accommodations in the main lodge – a 2 story beautifully appointed suite that could sleep up to 8 overlooking the water. The resort facilities were impressive, the restaurant, the dock and especially the on-site fish processing plant that processed our catch very professionally. The guide we had was one of the best I’ve experienced and his enthusiasm for fishing was contagious as was his local knowledge of where to find the fish. The docks and charter boats were top quality and very well maintained. I must say it was great for Jim and myself both of whom are long time, ardent anglers to just set back and relax let our guide Jimmy run the show for us and get us into some great fishing. I would very much like to return to the resort to do more fishing in the future. On behalf of my friend Jim and myself we would like to give a big thank you to all the staff at Moutcha Bay Resort for showing us a great time on the water and at the resort. I hope to be back there soon.

2013 raffle winner Ken Rant/George Wetherall of Team City of Victoria –
a big thanks to feature sponsor Nootka Marine Adventures

Just a quick overview of how the trip we won at the Consultants Derby went. It was just fantastic to say the least. We have been to many places including more than a few high end resorts and I have to tell you that this one was right up there enjoyment wise. From the minute we met our guide/host Gibran, we knew this was going to be a good one. The food and accommodations were splendid and the time on the water with G-Man was a blast, he knows were to fish and doesn’t watch the clock to see how much time is left in the day. We caught our limit of hali’s as well as salmon and threw in a bunch of other bottom fish to top it off.

Get up in the morning and head down for breakfast – ordering anything you want from a light snack to a full size meal and after that gather together your box lunch, chips and snacks along with coffee and anything else you may want and off you go for a day on the water. At six or so you come in and have a great dinner that includes wine and beer as well as a fine dessert, pour back a few more refreshments and then off to the comfortable quarters for a well deserved rest. Doesn’t get much better!!

On behalf of Ken and Jamie, I would like to thank you for letting us be a part of your derby and congratulate you once again for the out-standing work your crew does on behalf of salmon enhancement.

By the way we have booked a spot at the end of July this year for 16 of us at Nootka Marine Adventures – Moutcha Bay Resort. Had not been up that way for over a dozen years but will be back a lot more often thanks to you guys.

Cheers – George Wetherell

2011 raffle winner George Arnold of the Goldstream Hatchery – a big thanks to feature sponsor Qualicum Rivers Winter Harbour Fishing Lodge and Resort:

We have just returned from our fishing trip at Winter Harbour, which I won at your derby last summer.
Rob Knutson runs a terrific operation.  The whole crew are friendly and knowledgable. The fishing was unbelievable as we caught halibut, salmon, Ling cod, red snapper.  The meals and accommodations were superb, and all the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.  At the time that I won this trip, I didn’t realize how lucky I was.
Thank you again for this memorable trip.

George Arnold,
Goldstream Hatchery.

2010 raffle winner Greg Hogge of Epcor – a big thanks to feature sponsor Sunds Lodge on Malcolm Island:

Wow. The Sund’s lodge on Malcolm Island is a trip of a life time. I have been to a few fishing lodges but this one offers so much more. It is truly a luxury trip that would be a pleasure for the whole family. With fantastic accommodations, picturesque setting, superb fishing, world class dining, and outstanding customer service, what’s not to like.

The trip was a 2 full days and 2 half days in the all inclusive resort. We caught Chinook Salmon (up to 26#), Halibut (up to 50#), Pink and Coho Salmon and bottomfish. Even though my friend out fished me with the 50 pounder it was still a fantastic trip.

We ate like royalty with world class 5 course meals including wine pairings. Lunches were also superb with the “Beach Bistro”. If you have never had crab cooked over an open fire on the beach I highly recommend it. The next day was lunch from the “Burger Boat”.  Gourmet hot burgers or hot dogs that they cook on a boat as you pull along side.

The Sund’s lodge also has outstanding accommodations and friendly and attentive staff that catered to our every need. It was truly and outstanding experience.

Thanks to Scott Sund for the donation of the trip to a great cause. I look forward to the next time I get to stay and fish at their outstanding resort.

2009 raffle winner Kim Tapping of Times Colonist (who graciously gave her trip to her father!) – a big thanks to feature sponsor Duncanby Lodge of River’s Inlet:

The entire trip to Rivers Inlet was first class! The plane ride, both ways, was exciting . The view all the way was breathtaking. Duncanby Lodge is a top notch facility. The staff were very accommodating in every way. The meals were terrific — all you could eat any time of day! The fishing boats were well stocked with fishing and navigating equipment and cleaned up for you after every trip. The scenery around the lodge is spectacular—marine life, including whales, could be seen from the sundeck any time of day. The only problem we had was that the fish did not co-operate! We arrived there between the big springs and the coho runs and the fishing was slow. However,we enjoyed ourselves immensely and I would recommend staying at Duncanby Lodge to anyone planning a trip to Rivers Inlet!

Sincerely  Stu  MacFarlane
